Domodedovo specialists took part in the 45th Moscow international conference «Ways to improve airport infrastructure»: jointly with representatives of the UK, Germany, Moldova, the Netherlands, Ukraine and Uzbekistan, the Russian market experts discussed the development directions of the most important segment of aviation business.
Investment instruments aimed at modernizing airfield facilities and contributing to the qualitative expansion of the non-aviation sphere of passenger services became one of the main topics of the meeting. Among the most notable and global projects of this kind is Aerotropolis Domodedovo, which has no analogues in Russia. The conference participants had the opportunity to get acquainted in more detail with the unique way of improving the infrastructure, chosen by Domodedovo airport.
Aerotropolis is a unique form of urban development in which planning, infrastructure and economy are concentrated within a 25-km radius from the core of the «transport metropolis» – the airport. A whole city should grow on the basis of Domodedovo: coordinated logistics and transport hubs, shopping centers, business areas and hotel complexes will be developed as a large-scale industrial cluster.
Within the framework of the Aerotropolis Domodedovo project, which is being created, the Inflight Food Factory has already been built jointly with the largest catering chain LSG Sky Chefs in 2013. In addition, such projects as a multi-storey parking lot, a warehouse complex with an area of 30,000 m2, two eight-storey business centers - over 20,000 m2, a 4-star hotel complex, a cargo village with an area of 226,000 m2 with a cargo terminal, a refrigerated storage room, an office and client building.
According to the International Consulting Agency Cushman & Wakefield, the activities of Aerotropolis Domodedovo will contribute to the creation of up to 94,000 new jobs, and a significant number of commercial enterprises on the territory of the unique urban area will generate additional tax revenues to the regional budget. The Aerotropolis project attracted great interest of the conference participants: experts call it the most modern and diversified form of airport infrastructure development.
Moscow Domodedovo Airport is Russia's largest aviation hub. In 2013, the airport handled 30.76 million passengers.
